This is Not Your Mother’s Volvo 240 Station Wagon
Here is another fantasy casting that is equal parts ridiculous and awesome. This is the Hot Wheels Volvo 240 Drift Wagon, another new casting from Mattel. Hot Wheels designer Frasier Campbell took your Mom’s Volvo 240 station wagon, slammed it, tacked on some massive fender flares, and cut a hole in the hood. The exhaust and dump pipe poke out behind the front wheelwell though more holes in the bodywork. The longroof has also been converted to a panoramic sunroof; showing off all that luxurious chrome interior.

Huge rectangular headlights are separate plastic pieces, as is the grille, which adds quite a bit of depth to the Volvo’s face. Out back, we have tampoed taillight stacks that could have been drawn on by your kid. The best part though, is a double doggie Easter egg! As a nod to vintage station wagon castings, two pups have been placed in the back with their snoot’s hanging out the rear hatch. Unfortunately, we can see an ugly rivet post behind them, but there isn’t much to be done to ensure structural integrity with an interior as wide open as a Costco.

Yet another fun casting from Hot Wheels’s 2022 line up that is just too cool to leave on the pegs! I really like this trend and hope it keeps up, and maybe this lays the groundwork for an actual, licensed Volvo 240 wagon in the future.
