This Ferrari LaFerrari Model Just Sold for $14k on Bring A Trailer
Last week, Bring a Trailer auctioned off this massive 1/8 scale Ferrari LaFerrari without reserve. The hammer dropped at an eye watering $14,000! There are full sized, driveable cars that don’t sell for that price! I’m not sure if this will make you feel worse, but the buyer actually got a deal on this model car…
As someone in the comment section pointed out, these Amalgam Ferrari LaFerraris retail for $18,500. However, only yellow or black cars can be ordered by us common folk. Only Ferrari LaFerrari owners were allowed to order one in red! At 1/8 scale, this model is around two feet long and comes with a carbon fiber base, an acrylic display cover, and a fabric clamshell case. The seller even went to the extent of including a shipping crate and offered the pay for the freight costs out of their own pocket.
Many commenters on the auction also pointed out this Amalgam’s fatal flaw: nothing opens! It is a resin model, so while the car is beautiful beyond all reason, there’s no playing with the butterfly doors or peaking into the engine bay. This of course, is a $14,000 Ferrari LaFerrari sculpture that falls under the “look but don’t touch” category. This goes into a Ferrari memorabilia collection, not put up on a shelf with AutoArts and BBRs. Well, that settles it, I’m spending my lotto winnings elsewhere!
