Mattel does the Alfa 33 justice
Sometimes Hot Wheels drops new castings that are completely out of left field. It seemed like every new release was based on a JDM legend or a RADwood era favorite, then came this. The Alfa Romeo Type 33 Stradale is often regarded as one of the most beautiful cars ever to bless the world’s asphalt. Its low stance, slopey fenders, and mid-mounted engine under glass is enough to bring a grown man to his knees. Hot Wheels decided to immortalize this Italian beauty with a full premium casting treatment.
The Alfa Type 33 Hot Wheels car made its debut late last year as part of their premium Boulevard Cruisers line. That means top-notch paint and detailing, rubber tires, and a fully metal base. I was pretty bummed that I couldn’t go out hunting for it during the pandemic and all, but a fellow LaLDer hooked me up. I honestly couldn’t find a bad angle of this thing with my camera. Maybe the wheels could have been a different, perhaps the Lancia 037’s rotary phone dial rims in gold, but even that’s a stretch.
