One Koenigsegg to rule them all – AutoArt 1/18 scale One:1
Words and Images: Scott Nadeau /Live and Let Diecast
Surprisingly, I never had a Koenigsegg in my supercar-heavy 1:18 collection. Cost of entry to Koenigsegg model ownership is heavy; they’ve only been made by high-end manufacturers like AutoArt and FrontiArt. Needless to say, these models are expensive when they first drop, and prices only increase from there on eBay. Then came the AutoArt Koenigsegg One:1…

When AutoArt announced their Koenigsegg One:1 last year, I decided that was going to be my first addition of the Swedish brand to my collection. Little did I know, they priced these models with an MSRP of close to $300. I pretty much immediately forgot about this model, and of course collectors with deeper pockets than me snatched them all up.

Sure enough, AutoArt’s model was so popular, it warranted another production run soon after. Maybe that should have been my chance to get one… but that price tag was still pretty scary. Well fate would have it that our dear friend Model Citizen Diecast would offer a kickass discount on Black Friday. Plus he just so happened to have the white/red/carbon One:1 in stock. Add to cart…

I’m pretty sure everyone knows just what the Koenigsegg One:1 is and the engineering marvel it turned out to be. Based on the Agera, the One:1 was able to achieve a perfect weight to power ratio. This was accomplished through use of lightweight materials with carbon fibre wheels and a titanium exhaust. Its power output is equal to that of a “megawatt”, so Koenigsegg dubbed it the world’s first Megacar. Supercar, Hypercar, Megacar is the order, I guess…

As with the majority of modern AutoArt models, this one has body panels made from ABS plastic. Their marketing team refers to as “composite” to make it sound fancy, but it’s plastic. Even still, the level of detail is out of this world. The rear hatch lifts and stays open thanks to realistic struts. The roof panel is removable, the luggage compartment opens, and the rear wing articulates. The best part though, is Koenigsegg’s iconic dihedral synchro helix actuation doors. The car doors slide out, the hinges swing towards the front of the car, then the doors tip up. The AutoArt Koenigsegg One:1 is literally a work of automotive art.
