THANK GODZILLA! IT’S A GTR
– What makes a good collector car? If you can look at it forever. This side profile

Gojira or not it still is a monstrous car. It’s a car that can beat the pants off many Lamborghini’s and Ferrari’s and like it or not it’s Super car status with a Japanese passport. Which is why the allure of JDM is always high. The way Japanese engineers twist and twine engine body parts together, cheating more meatier engines, using technology to smoke the competition is almost Samurai like. I’m sure the most favorite bible story in Japan would be David and Goliath and they always bet on David. I, am also very proud to say that I have had the opportunity to blast down the highway at 9 in the night driving a friends NISMO package GT-R, it is one of the most exhilarating things I have done in my life to date and there are very very few of those. As a result, I am absolutely smitten by the GT-R 35.

As a CastHead, JDM fan, petrolhead, driver of a GT-R, and son of someone who owned a KPCG110 in the 90’s I’m obviously going to celebrate the GT-R’s 50th Anniversary. Unfortunately, due to constraints, I wasn’t able to pick up the Anniversary TLVN GT-R but I did manage to get my dirty paws on the Anniversary TOMICA and I’m not sad at all. It was a gamble and I was pretty sure that I was going to regret not getting the TLVN but…. TOMICA delivered in bucket loads and I love it.

First of all the body paint is perfect and the livery branding is just gorgeous and there was no way they could get this wrong because it’s an updated livery style to the original that was used on the Japanese Super Silhouette Nissan GT-R’s in the 80’s who was also sponsored by TOMICA. Which also gives you the idea of how far TOMICA and NISSAN go back.
Plastic headlights, thankfully not silver paint, opening doors and a body mold that has been perfected by TOMICA completes the 50th Anniversary ensemble. But the highlight of this model is the paint job undoubtedly, rich red, deep black, and painstakingly precise branding, logo’s, and badges.

With brands like MINI GT and TARMAC WORKS offering a bit more variation and better quality (wheels that don’t roll don’t matter to me) it has been increasingly difficult to allot finances to TOMICA but I’m glad I got this because this looks stunning and something I would enjoy looking at in my collection for years to come (at least another 50).
