The Race
The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, also known as the “Race To The Clouds”, is an annual hill climb race on Pikes Peak in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado. The race has been held since 1916 and covers almost 20 kilometers. It involves 156 curves and a little more than 1,400 meters of altitude. On the way to the finish line, which is located at an altitude of 4,301 meters above sea level, the vehicles with combustion engines lose around one third of their power due to the thin air at altitude.
In 1987, rally legend Walter Röhrl competed in what was probably the most extreme Audi Quattro ever built.We’re talking about the Audi Sport Quattro S1 Evo 2 Pikes Peak, which took to the unpaved gravel track with around 600 hp, all-wheel drive, and a huge spoiler. Walter triumphed with a time of just 10:47.85 minutes, securing Audi’s third consecutive victory.

The Model
A few weeks after the release of the AutoArt model, CMR has now also launched a miniature edition of the Audi Sport Quattro S1 in 1/18 scale. Let’s take a closer look here in more detail.
Not only the real car, but the model also has an imposing appearance. At first sight it becomes clear: a new boss has moved into my showcase at home. The mighty spoilers, which are a major feature of the Pikes Peak Quattro, are very well implemented and complements the well proportioned, angular body, which is painted in the typical Audi colors.
The doors also open to reveal the driver’s cockpit, which is equipped with nicely designed gauges, pedals and a racing seat with seat belts. The 5-spoke wheels are neatly sized and round out the overall look.
Summary
CMR has managed a true stroke of genius with this miniature, which costs just 70 euros. So it should come as no surprise that the model has already become a bestseller. Fans and collectors can also look forward to a “dirty version” of the Audi, which was released a few days ago.
