Battle AMG GT-R(oyale)!
Lance Müller pits the Majorette Mercedes AMG GT-R against the Tomica. Who do you think won?
Okay before we go any further, this isn’t any apples to oranges comparison. Its apples to apples as IMHO, both are affordable “play” models in their own markets. Though sometimes we collectors pay high dollar (Euro/Pound/Rupee) for them in other markets. Both of them have opening parts and each has its own merits. Also before your ask me why the Hot Wheels AMG GT wasn’t included… its because its a completely different model.

I’ve been eager to have a tête-à-tête with them for awhile now since the Majorette arrived in the Castheads Garage. So let’s proceed shall we.

MAJORETTE MERCEDES AMG GT-R 1:64
This was part of the 2020 Premium Cars set. Featuring the signature Green Hell Magno paint, but in a high gloss. It features the accents of black in the front, hood, behind the front wheel wells and a black plastic base. The lights are plastic in the front. Unfortunately the back lights are painted on. But sports the dots reminiscent of the LEDs found on the real car. The front grille is painted on , but you can feel a slight bump on the emblem.
Closer inspection, you might be able to discern V8 Biturbo on the sides and AMG tampos on the back. Might have to use a magnifying glass. Wing mirrors and a black plastic spoiler completes the exterior of the model. The trim lines are a bit less defined, but that may be because the paint seems so thick.

This model has opening doors and a very nice black interior. Left-hand drive and a decently detailed interior that unexpected of a baseline diecast model.It rolls on black/silver six-spoke wheels that looks very much like the AMG Forged versions which is a very nice touch. Great suspension for rolling on tracks. Overall a very good model. Only thing is can we get it in the matte green paint please

TOMICA MERCEDES AMG GT-R 1:65
Released in 2017, this was the 8th model to bear the No. 7 box number. It’s covered in a matte metallic flake paint. Its a little lighter than the Green Hell Magno but is quite nice. Its almost devoid of any painted accents but has a black matte roof. The headlights and the rear lights are painted on (like every Tomica basic model). The front grille is nicely painted and textured that you can actually feel the grooves and the bump on the emblem. The hood intakes are also textured.
Tampos are severely limited, sporting just the tri-pointed star on the front. The model ports no side mirrors, but has a black plastic spoiler. The trim lines, intakes and outlets are very nicely defined.

The doors open to an interior that is okay. The steering wheel is part of the casting while the rest of the interior is plastic.
The wheels are the basic Tomica wheels, but since they are also silver rimmed, it adds to this particular model. Suspension works so don’t worry about rolling this one down a track.

Tomica also released this as an event model at the Osaka Tomica Expo 2018 and was also the Tokyo Auto Salon model in 2018, which I managed to get my hands on.

Both of these models pay homage to their real counterpart very well. The each have their pros and cons. The Tomica model is smaller than the Majorette, or you can look at it the other way round. The real model sports a matte paint, while Majorette has opted for a more gloss paint and the Tomica is lighter. The Tomica’s lines are more defined, but the Majorette makes up for that in details both in and out. The Majorette’s suspension is vastly better than the Tomica’s, but the Tomica has more weight, which helps on a track actually.

But If I was asked to pick a winner, I’d go with the Majorette for its more detail than anything else. But it’s like a 9.9 over 9.8 win, the margin was minute.
