Stop adulting for 2 minutes and play with this Matchbox Park & Play Garage
I had no idea that the guys from CastHeads were sending me this set, but man was I excited to put this thing together! Over the years with LaLD, I’ve seen many drool-worthy Tomicarama diorama playsets. I’ve always sort of wanted one in the back of my mind, even though I mainly collect 1/18 scale. I had heard about these Matchbox sets when they were announced, but never saw one in person thanks to pandemics, lock-downs, and what not. They certainly seem like they are “gateway” diorama/collectible displays to me!

This thing is crazy cool. It is a multi-level parking garage with a manually operated car lift, parking gates, and interactive sounds. The set comes with, let’s just call it, a “power block” that activates a different sound dependent on what floor you raise the elevator to. I can’t even explain how it works! The lift announcer tells you what floor you’ve stopped at and what amenities are available on that level. The door also activates an opening and closed sound as you move it.

Assembly was straight-forward, yet still enjoyable. The interlocking plastic tabs are all letter coded, so I only had to consult the directions when it was time for decals. The road sections have open tabs to accept other playsets as you build your own Matchbox Megalopolis. Oh yeah, and it comes with a sweet, sweet green on gold wheels Mustang GT.

I’m pretty sure that’s Rod Emory updating his Instagram real quick

Another really cool feature is the push-button “curb” that activates the lift gate. My six-year old son was more than eager to demonstrate for this shot. Just drive on through, you don’t need to stop for a paper ticket. You know you’d only lose it in your wallet anyway.

I’m really excited to use this Park & Play garage as both a display and a set that I can take off the shelf and let my boys play with. It holds up to ten 1/64 scale cars, making it perfect for the latest set of Opening Parts Matchbox cars…
