Vintage Stories: Hot Wheels Meyers Manx First Edition
DeLorean isn’t the only cult classic auto getting a rEVive these days. Meyers Manx announced their first all new car in sixty years earlier this month. The Meyers Manx 2.0 Electric catapults everyone’s favorite beach buggy into the 21st century. The iconic silhouette has been modernized and hit right where the DeLorean missed the mark. It’s both classic yet new and boasts a 300 mile range on EV power. Unlike the Moke America’s Moke-E, this doesn’t seem to be just a gussied up golf cart. Still, a lot of questions remain unanswered, like how much will one of these bad boys will cost. Also, will back seats be an option? Asking for a friend…
Coincidentally, I had just found this Hot Wheels 2003 First Edition Meyers Manx about a month earlier. I’ll be honest, I did not know a Hot Wheels Meyers Manx was even a thing. I just so happened to find this one sitting on the $1 table at a diecast shop in Colorado when I was in town for the Pikes Peak Hillclimb. Apparently it has been released about two dozen times over the last twenty or so years.
It is an absolute testament to the early 2000’s era of Hot Wheels. Sporting classic 5SP wheels, sits on a heavy metal chassis, and wears barely any tampos whatsoever. No headlight or tailight detail, just a cool Meyers Manx logo on the purple hood. I have very little affinity for the OG Manx, but for a buck, this little guy had to come home with me. I’ll be curious to see if the Meyers Manx 2.0 gets off the ground, and if us CastHeads will get a new Hot Wheels out of the deal.
