Majorette finds its way back to the States
About a month or two ago, I finally went out hunting for Hot Wheels after receiving my second dose of the Covid vaccine. I hadn’t been to Target in over a year, so I went a little nuts and grabbed all the tiny cars I could. One of the biggest surprises though were some Majorettes. The brand has had its ups and downs with re-entering the US market over the past few years, and mainly struggled due to an exclusive deal with now defunct Toys R Us.

My local Target had a few pegs stocked with Majorettes, but on the shelves down below sat their 5-pack of Porsches. This set included a police Panamera, a Miami Blue-looking 718 Boxster, a classic 934, and two 991 GT3 RS cars. One of the GT3 RS cars wore a black and yellow Weissach package and the other was straight-up purple. I went with the purple one to shoot first.

These cars are meant to be slotted just about Hot Wheels and Matchbox as far as quality and features go. They are a little bit bigger, probably somewhere between 1/64 and 1/55 scale. Majorette’s cars feature tampo details and taillights, as well as separate plastic lenses for the headlights. The doors open, although really not wide enough to be photo worthy. The wheels are only made of plastic and do not feature rubber tires, but the suspension is enjoyably springy.

On the negative side of this review, I’m going to knock the rear wing a bit. It is a plastic piece that seems to rest in a slot within the metal casting. Mine was knocked out of place, and I didn’t notice until three-quarters of the way done with my photo shoot. I trashed quite a few pics because of this. There are quite a few production mold lines left in the spoiler too.

The gloss purple paint is as smooth as glass though, and this car is clearly the highlight of the set. I wish there was more detail that the black paint used to illustrate the GT3 RS’s ventilation on all four fenders. The painted taillights and front turn signals sure do make up for it though. I love how the casting lines make the purple paint pop too, just look at it!
