Get in, Nerds, It’s Two for One Night at the Mos Eisley Cantina!
Now here’s one that I had heard about, figured I would never find, and then promptly forgot about. Imagine my excitement when I came across it on the pegs! This thing is so cool, and doubly cool when you aren’t even out looking for it.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Star Wars franchise, this is the main character’s mode of transportation of choice in the first movie. Wait, it’s the fourth chapter, but we’ll stay focused. This is Luke Skywalker’s X-34 Landspeeder, which was actually built on a Bond Bug chassis. To create the “levitating” effect, the film crew used mirrors to cover the wheels, as well as a dab of Vaseline on the camera lens.

Hot Wheels has done an incredible job casting this iconic movie “car”. The orange over orange paint job is spot on; right down to the patina. While it may not actually float, they did stick some tiny, body-colored wheels underneath to make it roll. Do you think Mattel will dare to reissue this in some sort of funky livery, like HKS or Advan?

I haven’t seen too many of these pop up on my favorite social media sites, but I have to give a quick shout out to @Trekkster__T. Mirrors and Vaseline probably weren’t required, but the diecast photography wizard snapped a few pics of his X-34 in mid-air! Hit the link to check out his Instagram, and be sure to give him a follow if you aren’t already. I promise you won’t regret it!
