More Than You Can Afford, Pal! Amalgam Drops Their Latest Masterpiece
Yeah, yeah, I know that I just quoted a scene with a Ferrari and a Supra. I couldn’t help myself though; that’s what I blurted out when I saw Amalgam’s Facebook post of their new 1:8 scale McLaren F1. Amalgam’s new $20,000 McLaren F1 model, that is.

Limited to just 199 models, this massive work of art will take up over two feet of real estate on your shelf. Silver and dark green metallic will be the initial colorway offerings, but high rollers can always opt for a ‘bespoke’ color to match their 1:1. As you would expect, the level of detail is beyond this world. Amalgam pinged McLaren themselves for material specifications used to manufacture the legendary F1. They’ve also developed the CAD data from scanning the real deal.

Sadly, I’ve never seen an Amalgam model in person, no matter the scale. Needless to say, I’m absolutely blown away by the pictures posted on their Facebook page. I can see actual weather stripping around the door openings, stitching on the dash panels, and an embossed horn symbol on the steering wheel. They’ve added heat-reducing foil around the rear glass bezels within the engine bay. The paint job looks better than the car I drive around. No mention or visuals if they used real gold to line the rear engine bay opening though! I’m curious to see if the side storage compartments open and if matching luggage is included. It better for the $19,564 price tag!

The models will also be mounted on either a carbon fibre or leather plinth and covered with an acrylic dust protector. If you’re doubting that you can afford such a marvelous model, I’ve got some good news for you. Amalgam offers 0% financing for four equal payments of $4,891, which is awfully tempting! How many kidneys does a guy need anyway?
