A Couple Scat Pack Brats from Auto World
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. That’s exactly the mantra Dodge adopted with the Challenger, which has only received minimal changes since its debut in 2008. It’s given the Mustang a run for its money as America’s muscle car. The Camaro was revived, completely redesigned, and has died out once again all within the third generation Challenger’s run. Dodge got the formula right on their first try: Big and Loud.
Digging back into the box of goodies that Auto World sent us, we have a pair of Scat Pack Challengers. I love the Scat Pack trim; it’s like the Goldilocks Challenger. Not too much power like the Demon and Redeye, but still way more impressive than the base R/T. They sent us 1/64 scale gems; one in Sublime Green and Torred Red. Both models have an opening hood, sourced from the Hellcat Challenger, with a 6.4L Hemi underneath. The Scat Pack, of course, also came with those gorgeous wide-body fenders, so these Auto World’s have an amazing stance!
Thankfully too, Auto World did not include the ridiculous yellow splitter protectors that we all love to rag on the Mopar fans over! The iconic Challenger face is drawn on perfectly, with details like badges and air catcher headlights. Around the sides of the cars, we get Superbee riding on top of “392” numbers, nicely replicated black wheels, and colored side markers. A plastic rear deak-lid spoiler sits on the trunk, Virginia plates with the respecitive color names, and detailed taillights wrap up the backside.
Once again, Auto World has dropped straight fire onto their Modern Muscle line up. These are beautiful 1/64 scale hunks of Mopar muscle that every Detroit fan needs in their collection. It will be difficult to follow up the third-gen Challenger’s success, especially moving away from dino-burning, monster V8s. Yes, the next Charger and Challenger cars from the Dodge brothers will be electric powered, but hopefully we all can find comfort in shredding tires in a silent but different way.
